Crown Technical Staffing is looking for an experienced and degreed Project Engineer (HVAC Data Centers) to work with a reputable MEP Engineering firm in New York City. The ideal candidate will manage one to two smaller projects. This person will assist an Associate/Partner as a project leader and is expected to coordinate, communicate, and problem-solve across disciplines and exhibit the ability to balance the Client relationship with the project’s financial goals. This is a remote role. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity with full benefits and 25% domestic travel to the Northeast.

Responsibilities of the Project Engineer (HVAC Data Centers)

·      Leads the design on Tenant fit-out projects and is a key designer on base building/infrastructure upgrades; assembles riser diagrams, schedules, and floor plans; participates in specification writing.

·      Establishes design criteria from the project proposal and assembles basis of design documents.

·      Assembles a complete set of contract documents for their trade including the layout of main equipment rooms, closets, shafts, risers, etc.

·      Leads design for their trade’s ancillary systems required for a project and can assemble scope-associated drawings with these systems (e.g. UPS, generators, fuel, secondary water pumps, water reclamation system, etc.).

·      Reviews shop drawings, RFI’s, Contractor change orders, performs site visits and punch-lists with limited supervision to verify that designs are being implemented accurately.

• Assists in establishing an efficient project schedule for his/her project team that ensures appropriate use of resources while adhering to deadlines.

• Assists in following up on progress and completion of tasks; holds team members accountable to completing tasks on time regardless of his/her position.

• Assists in communicating with all internal and external project members about deadlines, issues, meetings, and deliverables to project success.

• Participates in the preparation of basic proposals/add services; prompts Supervising Partner/Associate for review and approvals; assists in managing design/Owner changes.

• Assists in coordinating, collaborating, and updating entire project team (all internal departments) on a regular basis to ensure that design documents are aligned, and deadlines and design expectations are met.

• Assists in scheduling sit-down page-turn/reviews with Associate/Partner; ensures that revisions are incorporated in a timely manner.

Qualifications for Project Engineer (HVAC Data Centers)

·      Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering

·      2+ years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.

·      Proficient in all design calculations and software tools (e.g., Revit and AutoCAD) applicable to their discipline.

·      Strong understanding of trade-specific scope of project (i.e., proposal/add-service), trade-related codes (including energy, building, etc.) and the required coordination with other trades. 

·      Strong understanding of documentation requirements and content for each deliverable phase (e.g., SD, DD, CD and specifications).

·      Understands and implements office procedures related to both design (i.e., archiving drawings, filing drawings and forms, etc.) and construction administration (i.e., updating shop drawing log, updating RFI log, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineering (PE) license.

• 2+ years of work experience in large-scale mission critical facilities and their electrical/mechanical infrastructure.

• Experience in mechanical design, construction coordination, shop drawing review, construction observations and commissioning of mission critical data center mechanical equipment.

• Experience with Chiller, Cooling Towers, AHU, Heat Pumps and Generator designs

• Experience with energy modeling

• Experience process water flushing and treatment.

• Experience with Building Controls Systems

• Proficiency with Revit

• Understanding of ASHRAE 90.1 and 90.4

• Understanding of ASHRAE TC 9.9 publications 1-14
