Last weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to attend InvestFest, one of the largest financial literacy conferences in America. Our latest installment of “Engineering 365” will explore 2 central themes that we can learn from and apply to our roles within the industry.
Picture this: a sea of eager attendees, buzzing with excitement, all gathered to soak in the wisdom of financial and business gurus. Among the many speakers, one statement stood out and has been playing on repeat in my mind. Maverick Carter, a powerhouse leader, and CEO of LRMR Marketing, boiled down the role of a CEO to two essential tasks:
- Seeing around corners
- Getting sh*t done.
Now, let’s unpack that, shall we?
Seeing Around Corners
At first, I chuckled, imagining a CEO tiptoeing around office corners, trying to catch a glimpse of what’s coming next. But let’s be serious. This isn’t about literal corners; it’s about foresight.
As CEO, he stated that he must anticipate challenges, market shifts, and opportunities before they become evident. Sorta like having a crystal ball, but instead of magic, it’s powered by intuition, experience, and a keen understanding of the industry. At InvestFest, I saw this in action. Speakers predicted AI trends, discussed upcoming challenges, and shared insights that seemed to come from the future. My pen rarely came off the paper!
Getting Sh*t Done
Once you’ve peeked around that metaphorical corner, what’s next? Well, he suggested that you roll up your sleeves and dive into action. A CEO’s vision is only as good as their ability to execute it. It’s not just about grand ideas; it’s about making them a reality.
This means rallying the team, allocating resources, and sometimes, burning the midnight oil to ensure that the vision becomes a tangible result. At the conference, I was inspired by stories of tenacity, grit, and sheer determination. It was a testament to the power of action.
Reflecting on my InvestFest experience, I realized that while not all of us hold the title of ‘CEO’, we can all embrace its essence. We can strive to see the bigger picture, anticipate challenges, and then, with a dash of courage and a sprinkle of humor, get out there and get sh*t done!
