Assistant Controller Description
Crown Technical Staffing is looking for a talented, early-to-mid career level Assistant Controller for a leading U.S. manufacturer of washers and custom industrial cleaning systems based in Springfield, Missouri. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, degreed accountant who is comfortable leading a small finance team and working closely with the CEO and COO on cash management, reporting, and business decisions. This is a working leadership position for someone with real accounting instincts who isn't afraid to get into the details or speak up with an opinion. This role is based near Springfield, MO, with some flexibility in scheduling once established.
Responsibilities of the Assistant Controller:
- Leads a small finance team, ensuring proper coverage and cross-training across AP, AR, and general ledger functions
- Manages daily accounting operations including reviewing and approving payroll timekeeping, managing cash cycles, and overseeing the general ledger
- Prepares and disseminates accurate, timely financial management reports, including internal monthly financial statements, supports the annual audit process, and assists with annual budgets
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules and collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data from across the organization
- Maintains and ensures accuracy of the standard costing system, particularly relevant given the company's percentage-of-completion accounting environment for custom equipment builds
- Communicates directly and proactively with senior leadership, comfortably raising issues, making recommendations, and engaging in candid conversations about the direction of the finance function
- Supports bank relationship management, including line-of-credit covenant tracking and reporting
- Handles tax reporting and filings at the federal and state level, including sales tax and 1099 issuance
- Operates within the company's ERP system for all accounting functions
- Participates in a variety of special financial projects and ad hoc reporting as needed by leadership
- Helps build a layered, sustainable finance team structure to support long-term succession planning
Experience and personal qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA is not required but is a plus
- 3–5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience
- Manufacturing industry experience is helpful but not required; prior exposure to percentage-of-completion accounting is a meaningful plus
- Strong hands-on approach: must be comfortable getting into the numbers, unafraid of conflict or difficult conversations, and willing to proactively flag issues and offer opinions
- Experience with Epicor ERP systems is a plus
- Must be willing and able to work primarily on-site/local to the Springfield, MO area
- Must demonstrate strong self-discipline and accountability
- Must be able to clear a standard background check
